Entering free agency after winning the Finals MVP for the Toronto Raptors, everyone’s attention was on Kawhi Leonard as they awaited his decision for the 19-20 NBA season. On the 5th of July, Kawhi Leonard decided he was coming home by signing a multi-year contract with the LA Clippers. That decision sent shockwaves across the league, coincidently it was the day a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California. Inspired by Kawhi’s decision and the events of that day, New Balance decided to release the “Seismic Moment” collection.
From the upper to the outsole, the Kawhi “Seismic Moment” colourway is full of details. Over the white based upper, the overlay over the ankle features a graphic of a seismic wave chart which is used to detect the magnitude and strength of an earthquake. The graphic on the tongue also refers to the earthquake with its earthquake map style shapes and colours. Over the graphics on the tongue is a simple “Kawhi” as New Balance is yet to give Kawhi Leonard an official logo. The earthquake inspired theme continues around the semi-translucent outsole with an earthquake map showing the magnitude of the earthquake in different areas of California.
Along with the Kawhi, New Balance is set to release the 327 and additional apparel. The whole collection is set for a global release on the 11th of November.
