Last night against the Denver Nuggets, Kawhi Leonard returned to the Clippers line-up after a 5 game absence. With his return, he also debuted his second signature shoe, The Kawhi 2.
Upper
Like the previous sneakers Kawhi Leonard has worn, The Kawhi 2 is a mid-cut sneaker. Compared to The Kawhi, the second signature shoe takes a more simple and minimalistic approach. Rather than using various materials and overlays, The Kawhi 2 uses fuse to cover the knit material, simplifying the upper body. Like the first model, the knit material is exposed on the lateral and medial side for ventilation.
Midsole
The Kawhi 2 also looks to have moved on from FuelCell foam since the midsole structure has changed. Compared to the thin vertical grooves on the FuelCell foam, the midsole foam on The Kawhi 2 features thick aggressive wavy grooves for additional compression. In the time of writing, it is unclear what midsole foam is being used.
Outsole
Although we don’t have a clear image of the outsole, we suspect that it will be similar to The Kawhi which used a data-driven outsole for “on-court traction and off-court feel”.
